Sanicula is the name of a spring in the state of Illinois. In 1890, the homeopathic remedy was unintentionally proved by a family who drank the spring water for a year and suffered various side effects. The water has naturally occurring salts and a rare combination of minerals, many of which are used to make individual homeopathic remedies. The remedy Sanicula is a mixture of such remedies.

The main uses of this remedy are for the following: bedwetting; constipation with painful straining that results in a stool which slips back into the rectum; diarrhea immediately after eating; and motion sickness with nausea, vomiting, and a pronounced thirst. There is a tendency to vomit when fluids reach the stomach.

Common Uses:

Used in the treatment of:
Bedwetting;
Constipation accompanied with painful straining causing fecal matter to go back into the rectum;
Diarrhea post intake of food;
Motion sickness;
Relieve mucous congestion in the chest, stomach, and intestines.

Off Label Uses:

None noted thus far.

Side Effects:
Nausea;
Stomach upset;
Vomiting.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with intestinal disorders, like ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and other digestive tract conditions;
Leaves contain saponins that are toxic, however, are not easily absorbed by the body and so tend to pass through without causing damage;
Saponins can also be destroyed while cooking;
Not advisable to consume large amount of this containing saponins;
Not recommended in pregnant women and nursing mothers.
