Sinspar is the brand name of cinacalcet which is an agent that increases the sensitivity of the parathyroid gland to calcium in the body. This brings about a reduction in levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and phosphorous in the body.

Cinacalcet or Sensipar is used to reduce elevated levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in people with chronic renal disease who are on dialysis. Sensipar or cinacalcet is also used to lower calcium levels in patients with cancer of the parathyroid gland.

Currently there are no known off label uses for Sensipar.

Prior to taking Sensipar it is advsiable to inform ones' physician if one is allergic to the medication or if has any other allergies.

Before starting on Sensipar one must inform ones' physician if one has a history of liver disease, low calcium levels in the blood (hypocalcemia), seizures, high blood pressure.

Sensipar might make one dizzy; and one must exercise caution while engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery and one must limit alcoholic beverages.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with the healthcare practitoner.

This drug may pass into breast milk and could have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consulting ones' physician is recommended prior to using Sensipar under these conditions.
