About Yarrow
It is known by other names like Milfoil, Old Man's Pepper, Soldier's Woundwort, Knight's Milfoil, Thousand Weed, Nose Bleed, Carpenter's Weed, Bloodwort, and Staunchweed. Yarrow contains cholesterol, campesterol, sesquiterpenoids and triterpenes. Yarrow Tea is a good remedy for treating colds and fevers. Yarrow is used primarily for its action in colds and influenza, and also for its effectiveness in treating circulatory, digestive, excretory, and urinary system-related problems. The flowers of this herb are used for treating allergic mucus problems, including hay fever. The liquid tea prepared using flowers of yarrow are used in treating upper respiratory phlegm or use externally as a wash for eczema. Inhalations of this herb is used in treating hay fever and mild asthma. The dark blue essential oil, extracted by steam distillation of the flowers, is used as an anti-inflammatory medication; it is also effective when used in chest rubs for treatment of cold and influenza. The aerial parts are used for phlegm conditions, as a bitter digestive tonic to encourage bile flow, and as a diuretic. They act as a tonic for the blood, stimulate the circulation, and can be used for high blood pressure. Also it is useful in menstrual disorders, and as an effective sweating remedy to bring down fevers. Harvest during flowering. The tincture is used for urinary disorders or menstrual problems. Prescribed for cardiovascular complaints. Soak a pad in an infusion or dilute tincture to soothe varicose veins.
