Description | Uses & Side Effects | Warnings

The generic name of this medication is testosterone and brand names are AndroGel and Testim.

The active ingredient of this medication is testosterone and the inactive ingredients include carbomer; ethyl alcohol; and isopropyl myristate.

This medication is used in treating symptoms associated with decreased levels of testosterone in adult men when the body is unable to produce enough testosterone, condition referred to as hypogonadism.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating symptoms associated with decreased levels of testosterone in adult men when the body is unable to produce enough testosterone, condition referred to as hypogonadism.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Acne;
Breast tenderness or enlargement;
Change in libido or sex drive;
Skin irritation especially at the site of application.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or breast.

It is also not recommended in women; and most certainly not in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) or corticotropin (ACTH);
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), carbamazepine, or oxyphenbutazone;
Propranolol.

I have been on Androgel 1.62% for about 2 weeks now. About a week ago I developed a deep pain in my right shoulder that feels like I tore something. Motrin helps but I need to speak with doctor about alternatives.

I've been on it for 1 week now, pain in shoulders in there, but I can deal with that . It's the severe dry mouth that I can't stand, almost ready to give this up!

Pain in shoulder. I thought I had ripped my rotator cuff. Pain in knees.

Exactly!!! I switched to the abdomen and the pain finally subsided in my shoulders...however it took a month or so. I too was wondering if I had injured my rotator cuffs as well, but couldn't find any other reason than the androgel.

Goopy but so far it works. No red burn like marks as I had developed after one month on androderm patch. Energy level and sexual interest have increased greatly.

Everything has been great....except for major shoulder joint pain. I am switching to abdomen to see if the pain goes away. Anyone have the same symptoms of "rotator cuff" type pain?
