The generic name of this medication is triprolidine/pseudoephedrine.

Brand names are A-Phedrin, Actifed, Allerfrim, Allerphed, Altafed, Aphedrid, Aprodine, Biofed-PE, Genac, Histafed, Pediatex TD, Tripohist D, Vi-Sudo and Zymine-D.

The active ingredients of this medication are pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and triprolidine hydrochloride.

It is mainly used to treat sneezing, cough, runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, sore throat, and other symptoms associated with allergies and common cold.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat sneezing, cough, runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, sore throat; and other symptoms associated with allergies and common cold.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Tachycardia;
Confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;
Severe dizziness, anxiety, restlessness or nervousness;
Hypertension, severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness and seizure.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with following conditions:
Allergies to this medication or any of its ingredients like triprolidine or pseudoephedrine;
If suffering from renal disorders; diabetes; and glaucoma.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Antihypertensives;
Diuretics (water pill);
Medication to treat irritable bowel syndrome;
Bladder or urinary medications such as oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol) or tolterodine (Detrol);
Aspirin or salicylates (such as Disalcid, Doan's Pills, Dolobid, Salflex, Tricosal and others);
Beta-blockers such as atenolol (Tenormin), carteolol (Cartrol), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), nadolol (Corgard), propranolol (Inderal), sotalol (Betapace), timolol (Blocadren), and others.

After about 30 days of taking aprodine (like with many other allergy meds), my body seems to get use to it and it is not as effective as when I first took the medication...As a result, I often have to change to a different med.
