The generic name of this medication is sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim and brand names are Bactrim, Bactrim DS, Septra, Septra DS, SMZ-TMP DS, Sulfatrim Pediatric.

The active ingredients of this medication are sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Inactive ingredients include docusate sodium 85%, sodium benzoate 15%, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate and pregelatinized starch.

It is manufactured by Roche Labs.

It is combination of two antibiotics and is used in the treatment of various bacterial infections (e.g., middle ear, urine, respiratory and intestinal infections). It is also used to prevent and treat pneumocystis a type of pneumonia.

31 Dec 2010 I was prescribed SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tab, one twice daily for 10 days for a sinus and bladder infection. The first and second day I felt SOO much better. The third day, a few hours after the first pill of the day, I started feeling shaky and short of breath, and my heart was pounding hard. I called my PCP and they said to stop the medicine, and they called in a different antibiotic. After researching online, there are evidently alot of people who have side effects to this drug. Hope this helps!

23 Jun 2010 Well, all I can say is that I have been using bactrim for a long time now, and it is very efficient and affordable. I couldn't find a better combination. It fits my budget, and it works!

21 Apr 2010 i took this mediacation for a urinary tract infection and started to see results after a few days. The only thing I did not like so much about Bactrim was the size of the pill. It was a bit hard to swallow but other than that I feel as though it was very effective. There was less irritation and I started to feel like I had a healthier immune system.
