Warnings
The generic name of this medication is dicyclomine and brand name is Bentyl.
The active ingredient of this medication is dicyclomine hydrochloride.
This medication is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome.
Common Uses:
This medication is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome.
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior.
Fast, pounding or uneven heart rate.
Urinating less than usual or not at all.
Cautions / Warnings:
Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
If patient is allergic to dicyclomine.
If there is a blockage in the digestive tract.
In patients with myasthenia gravis.
If there is intestinal disorder such as ulcerative colitis.
If there is heart disease, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure or a heart rhythm disorder.
Drug Interactions:
Amantadine (Symmetrel)
Quinidine (Quinaglute, Cardioquin, Quinidex)
Digoxin (digitalis, Lanoxin)
Cold or allergy medicines
Narcotic pain medicine
Steroids (prednisone and others)
Phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), mesoridazine (Serentil), prochlorperazine (Compazine), thioridazine (Mellaril) and others.
A sedative such as Valium, Xanax, Librium, Tranxene, ProSom, Dalmane, Ativan, Versed, Restoril or Halcion.

barely helped me. I had irritable bowel syndrome and I was able to keep the food down most of the time but I had alot of stomach pains

I have been taking Bentyl for a few years now, and I only take it when I have symptoms. Sometimes twice a month, sometimes I skip months.. It works miracles with stomach pain, which is why I take it, but I do get a lot of the side effects. I thought I was the only one! I'm glad to see a strong 10% of people seem to get the same thing. Blurred vision, memory problems, equilibrium is slightly bad, slurred speech, dry mouth and very drowsy. If I have to take it more than once in a day or two the symptoms aren't nearly as strong. But go off of it for a couple months and take it again, and hello symptoms! Anyone else ever feel any of this?

Even though the medication is slightly painful it is nothing compared to the pain I was feeling in my stomach and this medication just relieved all of that pain and it just felt amazing, the cramping in my stomach was just gone. No side effects from this medication or anything.
