The generic name of this medication is insulin glargine and brand names are Lantus; Lantus OptiClik Cartridge; and Lantus Solostar Pen.

The active ingredient is insulin glagine and inactive ingredients are glycerol; m-cresol; zinc; and water for injection.

It is primarily used in the treatment of Type I and Type II diabetes.

19 Jan 2010 in the 6 months I have been on it, I have had shingles, superficial phlebitis, tendonitis and frozen shoulder.....I have gained 15 pounds as well...

26 Jul 2009 I like using Lantus because it is long lasting. I only have to use it before I go to bed. Because it is long lasting I don't have to worry about my sugar spiking in the middle of the night.

26 Jul 2009 Changing to this synthetic analogue, described to me as "the greatest thing for Type 1 diabetics" by my diabetic team was a decision I now deeply regret. The side effects were extremely debilitating - extreme fatigue, memory loss, joint & muscle pain, feeling as if I was in a foggy toxic state all the time despite good HBA1c results. Having changed to Porcine Animal Insulin I feel so much better & feel as if I am getting my life back. Nothing will convince me that this synthetic analogue is safe. Anecdotal evidence suggests it can in some individuals provide erratic blood glucose control. There are better insulins availiable.
