Treatment Information
The generic name of this medication is insulin glargine and brand names are Lantus; Lantus OptiClik Cartridge; and Lantus Solostar Pen.

The active ingredient is insulin glagine and inactive ingredients are glycerol; m-cresol; zinc; and water for injection.

It is primarily used in the treatment of Type I and Type II diabetes.

09 Sep 2011 Horrible reactions to Lantus. Flu symptoms(leg pain was unbelievable), burning in hands, worst fatigue I've ever experienced, brain fog., mood swings, pain in neck and shoulders, lower back ache in kidneys. Blood sugars were better, A1Cs excellent, but I just couldn't live like that. Tried Levimir, not much difference. I stopped taking it. Has anyone experienced cracking, popping in neck? Doctor denies that any of this could be from Lantus! Also had horrendous side effects from actos.

06 Aug 2011 Becoming an on set Adult Diabetic Type 1 was enough shock, including adding shots with medication to a person that would rarely take children's Tylenol was a life change. Lantus gives me the ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle by changing my diet eating plenty of vegetables and having time to learn the lifestyle of a diabetic.

26 Jul 2011 My doctor recommended Lantus. It is more expensive and less effective than the NPH I was taking. I was on 2 injections per day before Lanus. Now I have to take short acting insulin before each mean and Lantus before bed. I feel like a pin cushion and my blood sugars are no better. Taking the extra insulin has caused weight gain. Now I have arm/muscle pain (not neuropathy) constantly which started over 8 months ago. Doctor only gave me Naproxen (which I can't take because it makes my head feel weird). So I take Advil when I have a day that is worse than usual. I am in the process of asking my doctor to switch me back to NPH. I never had any problems with that. I have been diabetic Type 1 for about 29 years.

10 Jul 2011 I have been taking lantus for almost 4 years. Sometimes my blood sugar seems to run high, even after adjusting dose. Others it seems to run low....extremely low...even after adjusting dose. I have a lot of bloating/gas. Muscle cramps.
