The generic name of this medication is insulin glargine and brand names are Lantus; Lantus OptiClik Cartridge; and Lantus Solostar Pen.

The active ingredient is insulin glagine and inactive ingredients are glycerol; m-cresol; zinc; and water for injection.

It is primarily used in the treatment of Type I and Type II diabetes.

15 Jul 2010 Since being on Lantus, I've noticed an increase in arthritic pain and swelling of the knee joints. Some days it's difficult for me to walk I'm in so much pain. My finger joints are now inflammed and adding to the pain I'm already in. I've also gained weight and that angers me after I worked so hard to lose the weight. Lantus does keep my sugars at a normal level but at this point, because of all the pain I'm in, I need to discuss other options with my endocrinologist. My quality of life is suffering. Dee

11 May 2010 after 3 A1c tests that were getting worse and taking more and more Lantus, I quit it totally because when I upped the dose my blood pressure went up as well. I had pain in both hands having gained 15 pounds as well. After one week of quitting, my weight went down 8 pounds and I no longer have pain in my hands. I will never take that stuff again. My sugars have been down significantly, staying between 90 and 100 in the mornings without it....

10 May 2010 I have minimal side effects, if any. I do wish that it was an oral medication. It is supposed to last 24 hours, but it lasts more like 20 hours.
