The White mustard seed or Sinapis alba is an annual plant belonging to the family Cruciferae. Sometimes referred to as Brassica alba or B hirta or yellow mustard, it is cultivated for its seeds, mustard, as a fodder crop or as a green manure.

Currently, it is cultivated worldwide although it it is known to have originated in the Mediterranean region. In Traditional Chinese Medicine this seed is known to possess anti-inflammatory properties, useful for the treatment of swelling, warming the lungs and as an expectorant.
