Common Uses:

Tretinoin available as Retin-A, Avita, and Renova is a derivative of Vitamin A and is the treatment of choice for comedonal acne, or whiteheads and blackheads. It works by increasing skin cell turnover promoting the extrusion of the plugged material in the follicle. It also prevents the formation of new comedones. Tretinoin is also the only topical medication that has been proven to improve wrinkles.

Off Label Uses:

There are currently no known off label uses for Tretinoin Cream

Side Effects:
Side effects of Tretinoin Cream include mild redness or stinging, itching, burning, skin scaling, peeling and dry skin the first several weeks as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become severe, discontinue use and notify your doctor. Report any of the following serious effects: blisters/crusting or swelling of skin, darkening or lightening of skin color. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Cautions / Warnings:

Apply tretinoin cream at night before bedtime so the medication can work while you're asleep. If you apply it during the day, you might experience irritation from tretinoin cream's interaction with cosmetics and sunlight.Brand names of tretinoin have different niches. Doctors prescribe Renova for fine lines and Retin-A for acne.If you have sensitive skin, use tretinoin cream every other night. Otherwise, your skin may become red, irritated and flaky.Don't apply tretinoin cream to damp skin because it can cause irritation.Don't use more tretinoin than your doctor advises because you'll waste medication and possibly irritate your skin.Avoid getting tretinoin cream into

Drug Interactions:
Prior to starting on Tretinin Cream it is advsiable to inform your physician regarding any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including isotretinoin, amiodarone, tetracyclines or quinolone antibiotics, sulfa-drugs or phenothiazines as they increase skin sensitivity to the sun. Also minoxidil and any skin medication, soaps, cleansers, cosmetics, astringents or any facial products that may be drying or irritating (e.g., alcohol-containing facial products). Benzoyl peroxide should not be applied at the same time as this medication. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

19 Aug 2009	As I stated above, Tretinoin is not a prescription that works with my skin and does not make my acne totally disappear. I am really disappointed with this prescription and went I had my return visit, my dermatologist did not want to hear the complaints and just told me to continue using the prescription longer to see what happens? Tretinoin does nothing for my skin, except clear it up and then in a few weeks I'm back where I started.
