User Comments about Tums
04 Nov 2012 I have had my colon removed due to Crohn's disease 20 years ago. I decided to use tums instead of my prescription Pepcid medication. What a big mistake that was. I was happy that they gave me "normal bowel movements and thought I found a solution for my loose stools. 3 weeks after taking it as DIRECTED on the liable. I ended up in the ER for fecal impaction. It was so painful! They helped manually break it up along with an enama. They sent me home without testing me to see if there was more. That night I passed another one by myself. This was 2 years ago and I am now permently damaged from it. I now have small bowel bacteria overgrowth and need strong antibiotics for the unseen future. It took 2 years working with my doctor to resolve this issue. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. They finally started me on 2 antibiotics which got rid of the problem until I stopped using them. 4 days later the infection was back. Please don't use tums on a daily basis or you could end up like me. It's a very painful and unpleasant thing to go through.

21 Nov 2011 I started taking tums everyday for the calcium and heartburn. I followed the dosage on the bottle. At about 3 weeks after starting I ended up in the er for fecal impaction. It was one of the most painful things vie ever had to deal with! I have a history of crohns and surgery to have my large bowel removed. This happened about a year and a half ago and I'm still not right. It messed my system up so bad I'm afraid I'm never going to get better. They should put a warning on the bottle and quit making them look and taste like candy. I had no idea that could happen from tums. Be careful people, this is a strong medicine and I wish I had never taken it!
