Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating schizophrenia and certain symptoms of bipolar disorder.

Off Label Uses:

Side Effects:
Abnormal dreams;
Blurred vision;
Constipation;
Dizziness;
Drowsiness;
Headache;
Increased saliva production;
Lightheadedness;
Nausea;
Stomach upset;
Trouble sleeping;
Vomiting;
Weight gain.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not advisable in people who are allergic to any ingredient in Abilify Discmelt Orally Disintegrating Tablets;
Not advisable in people who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant;
Not advisable in people who have a history of heart problems (eg, heart failure, irregular heartbeat, recent heart attack);
Not advisable in people who has a history of diabetes.

Drug Interactions:
Anticholinergics (eg, benztropine, methscopolamine);
Benzodiazepines (eg, lorazepam), imidazole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole);
Carbamazepine, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin) or rifampin;
Alpha-blockers (eg, terazosin).

The generic name of this medication is Aripiprazole and Brand Name is Abilify Discmelt. The active ingredients of this medication Aripiprazole. Abilify Discmelt is manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. Mainly used in treating schizophrenia and certain symptoms of bipolar disorder.

About Aripiprazole

Aripiprazole (produced by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. and sold as Abilify) is the sixth atypical antipsychotic medications to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of schizophrenia. It has also recently received FDA approval for the treatment of acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Aripiprazole was approved by the FDA in November in 2002 and was developed by the Otsuka pharmaceutical company based in Japan, although in the U.S. it is jointly marketed by Otsuka USA Pharmaceutical and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
