Alcoholism treatment

Description

Alcoholism is defined as the chronic physical and psychological dependence on alcohol. This condition results in drinking without control over when it occurs, inability to control the number of drinks consumed, and inability to stop. The consumption of alcohol proceeds over all other tasks, leading to problems with relationships, work, finances, and health.

Causes

Long-term drinking, genetically inherited, social influences, mental health, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, stress.

Prevention

Avoid situations and people who are drinking alcohol, early intervention, discussions on alcohol and alcoholism, education on social interactions, D.A.R.E. programs.

Common Symptoms

Inability to limit drinks, strong desires to drink, increasing drinking tolerance, drinking alone, hiding alcohol in vehicles, at home, and work, insecurity and withdrawal symptoms when not drinking, desires to drink to feel happy, not being able to complete tasks or get out of bed without drinking.
