Breast Cancer treatment

Description
Breast cancer is a cancer that develops in the tissue of the breasts, primarily in the milk ducts (ductal carcinoma) or glands (lobular carcinoma). It starts with a small tumor or calcium deposits, and the cancer may spread and invade tissues around the breast.
Causes
The causes are unclear but the risk factors have been observed. Those who get breast cancer are generally older in age and have a family history of breast cancer, though this is not always the case. Researchers think the more exposure to estrogen, the more likely a woman is to develop breast cancer.
Prevention
Avoiding risk factors such as: estrogen, exposure to radiation, obesity, and alcohol. Preventative measures also include screening, self exams, maintaining healthy weight, and in severe cases, preventative surgery.
Common Symptoms
A lump or swelling in the breast or underarm, pain and tenderness in breasts, change in size, color, texture, and temperature of the breast, a change in the nipple (i.e. indrawn or dimpled, redness), unusual discharge from nipple (bloody, yellow, or clear colored).
Rare Symptoms
Swelling of the whole breast, extreme soreness of the breast, noticeable pores, scaliness and itchiness, increased temperature, and color change of breast to red.
Traditional Treatment
Surgery (masectomy or lumpectomy), radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy (i.e. tamoxifen), and biological or targeted therapy (i.e. herceptin).
Alternative Treatment
Complementary and holisitic medicine (i.e. acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, support groups, and yoga).
