Sexually Transmitted Illness (STI) treatment

Sexually transmitted illnesses (STIs or STDs), also known as venereal diseases, are infectious illnesses that have the probability of transmission via sexual behavior, including anal, oral, and vaginal sex. These illnesses include chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS, syphilis, genital herpes, HPV, some forms of hepatitis, as well as others.
Although STIs are defined by sexual transmission, the cause of these illnesses is due to various viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. These pathogens may be present in any potential environment, but are mostly prevalent in the human genitalia and in secretory fluids.
The most successful form of prevention is abstinence from sexual acts with people who have STIs. However, the most convenient and promoted form of prevention is through the use of contraceptives (male and female condoms). Reducing the amount of sexual partners is also recommended as well as performing routine STI check-ups at clinics.
Common Symptoms
Common STI symptoms are sores, bumps, or warts on the genital areas, as well as burning sensations when urinating. Genital swelling and itching is also common. It should be noted, however, that in HIV, symptoms may not occur in patients for up to 10 years or more.
Rare Symptoms
Rare symptoms include arthritis, heart problems, skin disease, and eye damage.
Traditional Treatment
Because of the viral and bacterial nature of these illnesses, the most common treatments are antibiotics (usually in the form of penicillin or metronidazole) and antiviral inhibitors.
Alternative Treatment
Alternative treatments include homeopathy, acupuncture, vitamin C-regimented diets, modified nutrition, yoga, and massage techniques. These treatments are usually performed in conjunction with drug treatments as opposed to being absolute replacements.
