The generic name of this medication is Amprenavir and brand name is Agenerase.

The active ingredient of this medication is amprenavir and inactive ingredient is cesulfame potassium.

Agenerase is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals.

It is mainly used in treating HIV infection. Agenerase is used in combination with other medications.

Common Uses:

Agererase is used for the treatment of HIV infection, in combination with other medications.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Diarrhea/loose stools.
Headache
Nausea
Numbness or tingling around the mouth and in the hands and feet.
Rash
Shift of body fat to stomach and upper back.
Stomach pain
Taste disorders
Vomiting

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for patients with the following conditions:
If allergic to any ingredient in Agenerase.
If patient is on astemizole, cisapride, delavirdine, an ergot derivative such as ergotamine.
During pre-pregnancy and pregnancy.
If patient has severe allergic reaction (severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness).
If patient has diabetes, hemophilia or other bleeding disorders.

Drug Interactions:
Carbamazepine, dexamethasone, methadone, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs such as efavirenz and nevirapine.
HIV protease inhibitors (indinavir, ritonavir).
Astemizole, certain HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (lovastatin, simvastatin), cisapride, eletriptan, ergot derivatives (ergotamine).
Aldosterone blockers (eplerenone), antiarrhythmics (amiodarone, bepridil, flecainide, lidocaine, propafenone, quinidine).
Delavirdine.
Anticoagulants (warfarin).

Agenerase is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals. It is mainly used in treating HIV infection. Agenerase is used in combination with other medications.

About Amprenavir

Amprenavir (Agenerase, GlaxoSmithKline) is a protease inhibitor used to treat HIV infection. It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on April 15, 1999 for twice-a-day dosing instead of needing to be taken every eight hours. The convenient dosing came at a price, as the dose required is 1,200mg delivered in eight very large gel capsules. Production of amprenavir was discontinued by the manufacturer December 31, 2004; however, a prodrug version (fosamprenavir) is available.
