The generic name of this medication is biperiden and brand name is Akineton.

The active ingredients of this medication are biperiden hydrochloride, biperiden lactate and inactive ingredient is magnesium stearate.

Akineton Tablets is being manufactured by Abbott Laboratories.

Mainly used to treat stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control of Parkinson's disease.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat the stiffness, tremors, spasms and poor muscle control of Parkinson's disease.

Off Label Uses:

The off label uses of this medication are - also used to treat and prevent similar muscular conditions when they are caused by drugs such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), perphenazine (Trilafon) and others.

Side Effects:
Allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of throat, swelling of lips, tongue or face, hives)
Unusual fever
Fast or irregular heartbeat
Anxiety, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, hyperactivity or loss of consciousness.
Seizures
Rash or eye pain

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for patients with the following conditions:
If there is an allergic reaction to this drug.
If patient has narrow-angle glaucoma.
If there is obstruction in bowel or a complication of bowel disease known as megacolon.
If patient has myasthenia gravis.

Drug Interactions:
A tricyclic antidepressant or TCA (used to treat depression, pain, or obsessive-compulsive disorder) such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Endep), doxepin (Sinequan), or clomipramine (Anafranil).
Other commonly used tricyclic antidepressants including amoxapine (Asendin), desipramine (Norpramin), imipramine (Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), and protriptyline (Vivactil).
A phenothiazine (used to treat mania, schizophrenia, other psychiatric conditions, and nausea and vomiting) such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin).
Quinidine (Quinora, Quinaglute, Quinidex, Cardioquin).
Amantadine (Symmetrel).
Digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps)
Haloperidol (Haldol).
