The generic name of this medication is medroxyprogesterone and brand name is Provera.

The active ingredients of this medication is medroxyprogesterone acetate.

Mainly used to treat conditions like amenorrhea or absence of menstrual periods; irregular menstrual periods; or abnormal uterine bleeding.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of amenorrhea or absence of menstrual periods; irregular menstrual periods; and abnormal uterine bleeding.

Off Label Uses:

Off-label use includes in decreasing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia (a condition that could cause uterine cancer) while taking estrogens.

Side Effects:
Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
Sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
Chest pain, sudden cough, wheezing, rapid breathing, fast heart rate;
Pain or swelling in one or both legs;
Chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
Vaginal bleeding if you have already gone through menopause;
Feeling like you might pass out;
a breast lump.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in:
Pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.
Patients suffering from liver disease; hormone-related carcinoma such as breast or uterine carcinoma;
People with a history of stroke or blood clot;
Women with abnormal vaginal bleeding.

Drug Interactions:
Anti-seizure medicines like carbamazepine/phenobarbital/phenytoin;
Azole antifungal agents like itraconazole;
Rifampin;
St. John's wort.
