The generic name of this medication is amoxicillin and brand names are Amoxil, Amoxil Pediatric Drops, Moxatag, Trimox.

Amoxil Pediatric Drops is manufactured by Glaxo Smithkline.

The active ingredient of this medication is amoxicillin (as trihydrate).

Amoxicillin is used in the treatment of several different forms of infections caused mostly by bacteria, infections include ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and E. coli or salmonella infection.

Common Uses:

It is used to treat various different infections caused by bacteria, like ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and E. coli or salmonella infection.

Off Label Uses:

It is also used in the treatment of abdominal ulcers caused due to H. pylori. It is used in combination with another medicine which is a stomach acid decreasing agent namely lansoprazole or Prevacid.

Side Effects:
Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
Nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
Diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
Easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
Urinating less than usual or not at all;
Agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or
Seizure (black-out or convulsions).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients or to any other penicillin antibiotic, like ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), dicloxacillin (Dycill, Dynapen), oxacillin (Bactocill), penicillin (Beepen-VK, Ledercillin VK, Pen-V, Pen-Vee K, Pfizerpen, V-Cillin K, Veetids), and others;
Diarrhea;
Asthma;
Liver disease;
Kidney disease.

It is also not advisable in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen);
Dicloxacillin (Dycill, Dynapen);
Oxacillin (Bactocill); or
Penicillin (Beepen-VK, Ledercillin VK, Pen-V, Pen-Vee K, Pfizerpen, V-Cillin K, Veetids, and others).
