The generic name of this medication is amobarbital sodium and the brand name is Amytal Sodium.
The active ingredient of this medication is amobarbital sodium.
It is manufactured by Flynn Pharma.
This medication is used to depresses the sensory cortex; it reduces motor activity; changes cerebellar functioning and causes drowsiness; sedation; and hypnosis.
Common Uses:
This medication is used to depresses the sensory cortex; it reduces motor activity; changes cerebellar functioning and causes drowsiness; sedation; and hypnosis.
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Bradycardia;
Constipation;
Hypotension;
Liver damage;
Nausea;
Syncope;
Vomiting.
Cautions / Warnings:
Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Asthma;
Cardiovascular disease conditions.
It is also not recommended in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.
Drug Interactions:
Alcohol, CNS depressants;
Anticoagulants, beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers (eg, verapamil), theophyllines;
Anticonvulsants;
Corticosteroids;
Estrogens, estrogen-containing oral contraceptives.

About Amobarbital
Amobarbital (formerly known as amylobarbitone) is a drug that is a barbiturate derivative. It has sedative-hypnotic and analgesic properties. It is a white crystalline powder with no odor and a slightly bitter taste. If amobarbital is taken for extended periods of time, physical and psychological dependence can develop.
