The generic name of this medication is oxymetholone and the brand name is Anadrol-50.

The active ingredient of this medication is oxymetholone. The inactive ingredients include, lactose; magnesium stearate; povidone; and starch.

This medication is used in the treatment of various types of anemia (lack of red blood cells) like aplastic anemia; myelofibrosis; or hypoplastic anemia caused by chemotherapy.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of various types of anemia (lack of red blood cells) like aplastic anemia; myelofibrosis; or hypoplastic anemia caused by chemotherapy.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Edema or swelling;
Rapid weight gain;
Increased or continued erection of the penis;
Changes in skin color;
Urination problems;
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Who are allergic to this medication;
Who are pregnant;
Who have prostate cancer, male breast cancer, female breast cancer with high levels of calcium in the blood, severe liver or kidney disease;
Who have liver or kidney disease, heart disease, congestive heart failure, high cholesterol or triglycerides, coronary artery disease, or an enlarged prostate.

Drug Interactions:
Blood thinning agents like warfarin or Coumadin;
Anticoagulants.
