The generic name of this medication is hyoscyamine and the various brand names are Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Hyospaz, Hyosyne, Levbid, Levsin, Levsin SL, Levsinex SR, Symax Duotab, Symax SL, and Symax SR.

The active ingredients of this medication is hyoscyamine.

This medication is used in the treatment of several types of abdominal and stomach disorders, including peptic ulcer and irritable bowel syndrome.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of several types of abdominal and stomach disorders, including peptic ulcer and irritable bowel syndrome.

Off Label Uses:

Off lable uses include:
Controlling muscle spasms in the bladder, kidneys, or digestive tract, and to reduce stomach acid;
As a drying agent to control increased salivation, runny nose, or excessive sweating.

Side Effects:
Diarrhea;
Confusion, hallucinations;
Unusual thoughts or behavior;
Fast, pounding, or uneven heart rate;
Rash or flushing; or
Eye pain.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Renal disorders;
Enlarged prostate or problems with urination;
Intestinal blockage;
Severe ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon;
Glaucoma.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Amantadine (Symmetrel);
Haloperidol (Haldol);
MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate);
Phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), mesoridazine (Serentil), perphenazine (Trilafon), prochlorperazine (Compazine), thioridazine (Mellaril), or trifluperazine (Stelazine); or
Antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), amoxapine (Ascendin), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), protriptyline (Vivactil), or trimipramine (Surmontil).
