The generic name of this medication is carbinoxamine/dextromethorphan/pseudoephedrine and brand names are Andehist DM NR, Carb PSE 12 DM, Carbaxef-DM, Carbodex DM, Carbofed DM Drops, Cordron-12 DM, Cordron-DM NR, Mintex DM, Pediatex 12 DM, Pediatex-DM, PSE Allergy DM, PSE Carb DM Drops, PSE Carbinoxamine DM, Pseudo Carb DM.

The active ingredients of this medication are brompheniramine maleate, dextromethorphan hydrobromide and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.

This is a combination medication and is used in the treatment of providing relief from runny/stuffy nose and symptoms like ear congestion, watery/itchy eyes, and sore throat associated with allergies; hay fever; common cold; and sinusitis.

Common Uses:

This is a combination medication and is used in the treatment of providing relief from runny/stuffy nose and symptoms like ear congestion, watery/itchy eyes, and sore throat associated with allergies; hay fever; common cold; and sinusitis.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Drowsiness;
Dizziness;
Dry mouth/nose/throat/eyes;
Blurred vision;
Fast heartbeat;
Trouble sleeping;
Restlessness;
Irritability;
Headache;
Upset stomach;
Shaking or constipation.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Blood vessel problems like decreased blood flow to the brain and both upper and lower extremities;
Breathing disorders like asthma and emphysema;
Diabetes;
Glaucoma;
Cardiovascular conditions like angina pectoris; tachycardia; and congestive heart failure;
Hepatic disorders;
Seizure disorders;
Abdominal/intestinal conditions like ulcers, blockage.

It is also not advisable in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
MAO inhibitors like furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine);
Antihistamines;
Antihypertensive medications like reserpine, guanethidine, methyldopa, beta blockers such as atenolol, or calcium channel blockers like nifedipine;
Decongestants administered orally or via nose;
Digoxin;
Tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline, desipramine;
Migraine medications like sumatriptan; naratriptan; zolmitriptan; and ergotamine.
