The generic name of this medication is leflunomide and brand name is Arava.

The active ingredient of this medication is leflunomide. Inactive ingredients include: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, povidone, starch, talc, titanium dioxide, and yellow ferric oxide It is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis.

This medication is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. It is also referred to as disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD)

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

Off Label Uses:

Also known to help reduce joint damage and improve physical functioning.

Side Effects:
Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
White patches or ulcers inside the mouth or on the lips;
Chest pain;
Cough, trouble breathing, fever;
Pain or burning when passing urine;
Pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Who are pregnant;
Who are allergic to leflunomide;
Who have liver disorder or a history of hepatitis;
Who have any type of infection;
Who have a weak immune system or bone marrow disorder.

Drug Interactions:
Methotrexate (Rheumatrex);
Cancer medications;
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, Gengraf);
Sirolimus (Rapamune), tacrolimus (Prograf);
Basiliximab (Simulect), efalizumab (Raptiva), muromonab-CD3 (Orthoclone);
Mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept); or
Azathioprine (Imuran), leflunomide (Arava), etanercept (Enbrel).
