The generic name of this medication are amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium and the various brand names are Augmentin, Augmentin ES-600, Augmentin XR.

The active ingredients of this medication are amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium. Inactive ingredients include, powder for oral suspension; colloidal silicon dioxide, strawberry cream flavor, xanthan gum, aspartame, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and silicon dioxide.

It is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline.

Mainly used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and infections of the skin.

Common Uses:

This medication used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and infections of the skin.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it;
Pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness;
Easy bruising or bleeding;
Skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;
Agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizure (convulsions);
Nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients or amoxicillin or clavulanate potassium;
Liver disease (or a history of hepatitis or jaundice);
Kidney disease;
Mononucleosis.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women who are planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Allopurinol (Zyloprim);
Probenecid (Benemid).
Other antibiotics.
