The generic name of this medication is azelastine hydrochloride and the brand name is Astelin.

The active ingredient of this medication is azelastine hydrochloride.

This medication is used to provide relief from symptoms of hay fever like itchy; runny nose; and sneezing.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to provide relief from symptoms of hay fever like itchy, runny nose, and sneezing.

Off Label Uses:

It is also be used to relieve cases of congested, runny nose, and postnasal drip unrelated to allergies.

Side Effects:
Bitter taste;
Drowsiness;
Headache;
Loss of sensation;
Nasal burning;
Sneezing;
Sore throat.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Kidney problems;
Not recommended in pregnant women; women who are planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Alcohol;
Drugs that slow the nervous system, including codeine, phenobarbital, and temazepam;
Cimetidine;
Ketoconazole;
Other antihistamines such as diphenhydramine, loratadine, and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.

Azelastine Hydrochloride, also known as Astepro, has worked really well for me. I tried Omnaris before I tried Astepro. Even though I lean forward like the instructions say to do, I still get a very bad strange taste in my throat and tongue. I'm pretty sure that it is because it drains down into my throat, but the first time I tasted it, I had a hard time getting the taste off my tongue. But it only took two days for me to get used to the bad taste. Besides the taste, there is nothing bad about it. It works very well and helps with my allergies.
