Warnings
The generic name of this medication is sulfasalazine and brand names are Azulfidine, Azulfidine EN-tabs, and Sulfazine.
The active ingredient of this medication is sulfasalazine.
It is manufactured by Pfizer, Inc.
Used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis.
Common Uses:
Used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis.
Off Label Uses:
Off label use includes treatment of rheumatoid arthritis; the delayed-release form, Azulfidine EN-tabs, is used for this purpose.
Side Effects:
Fever, sore throat, or other flu symptoms;
Pale skin, easy bruising;
Dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
Urinary discomfort;
Urinating less than usual or not at all;
The appearance of a whole tablet in your stool.
Cautions / Warnings:
Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to sulfasalazine, sulfa drugs, aspirin, or salicylates (such as Disalcid, Doan's Pills, Dolobid, Salflex, Tricosal, and others);
Asthma;
Kidney or liver disease;
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.
Drug Interactions:
Digoxin (digitalis, Lanoxin);
Folic acid (Folicin, FA-8); or
Vitamin or mineral supplements that contain folic acid.

This medication did not work for me at all, I had no negative side effects from it but it did not help to relieve my colitis which is what I was taking it for

About Sulfasalazine
Sulfasalazine (brand name Azulfidine in the U.S., Salazopyrin in Europe) is a sulfa drug, a derivative of Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid abbreviated as 5-ASA), used primarily as an anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease as well as for rheumatoid arthritis. It is not a pain killer.
