The generic names of this medication are diphenhydramine and pseudoephedrine. Brand names are Benadryl Allergy Decongestant and Tavist NightTime Allergy.

The active ingredients of this medication are diphenhydramine and pseudoephedrine.

This medication is used to treat sneezing, cough, runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching and other symptoms of allergies including the common cold.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itching, watery eyes, hives, rashes, itching and other symptoms of allergies including common cold.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Fast, pounding or uneven heartbeat.
Confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior.
Severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling or nervousness.
Increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
If patient has taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days.
If there is glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye.
If there is stomach ulcer.
If there is enlarged prostate, bladder problems or difficulty urinating.
If there is asthma.
During pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.

Drug Interactions:
Medicines to treat high blood pressure.
A diuretic (water pill).
Medication to treat irritable bowel syndrome.
Bladder or urinary medications such as oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol) or tolterodine (Detrol).
Aspirin or salicylates (such as Disalcid, Doan's Pills, Dolobid, Salflex, Tricosal and others).
A beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin, Tenoretic), carvedilol (Coreg), labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), nadolol (Corgard), propranolol (Inderal, InnoPran), sotalol (Betapace) and others.

This medication does not make me feel as drowsy as the other variaitons of Benadryl that I've taken in the past. However, it does not seem to be as efficacious or as fast-acting as Benadryl in relieving my hay fever symptoms.
