The generic name of this medication is loratadine and pseudoephedrine and brand names are Claritin-D, Claritin-D 24 Hour.

Claritin-D 24 Hour is manufactured and marketed by L. Perrigo Company.

The active ingredients of this medication are loratadine and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. The inactive ingredients include, calcium phosphate, carnauba wax, ethylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, povidone, silicon dioxide, sugar, titanium dioxide, and white wax.

It is primarily used in the treatment of symptoms of allergic reactions like sneezing; cough; runny nose; itchy eyes; hives; skin rashes; itching; and other symptoms associated with allergies and it is also used in treating common cold.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat symptoms of allergies like sneezing; cough; runny nose; itchy and/or watery eyes; hives; skin rashes; itching; and other related symptoms, as well as common cold.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Anxiety;
Blurred vision;
Confusion; hallucinations; unusual thoughts or behavior;
Dyspnea or difficulty breathing;
Fast and pounding or uneven heartbeat;
Feelings of restlessness or nervousness;
Hives;
Severe dizziness;
Swelling of the face; lips; tongue; or throat.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people suffering from:
Diabetes;
Glaucoma;
Heart disease or high blood pressure;
Renal disease;
Thyroid disorder.
It is not advisable in pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Antidepressants like amitriptyline;
Aspirin or salicylates like Disalcid; Doan's Pills; Dolobid; Salflex; Tricosal; etc;
Beta-blockers like atenolol and carteolol;
Diuretics;
Medications used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.

It works pretty well to provide allergy relief for a 24 hour period. However, it made me drowsy at times.

I used Claritin when it first came out. I became extremely allergic to allergans from my pets and ended up getting a terrible rash on my hands and feet. I had to get rid of my beloved pets to just get the rashes to go away. Several years later, I tried Claritin again for a few weeks and my skin became sensitive again and I stopped using it. After this use my hair began to fall out ... it has been diagnosed as Alopecia Areata and after 8 years is it almost Totalis. I recently saw a child with alopecia and the father stated that they had given the child Claritin... and are now hoping the little guy's hair will grow back. Something has to be out there that will reverse the effects of Claritin !!! I am moving toward Alopecia Universalis slowly but surely.

If you have any head congestion this is pretty good at breaking it up, but it makes your nose run a lot which is somewhat inconvenient at work and in class.

Overall I have had a good experience. Except for the palpitations that I get with the D- version. I can not take the regular because it makes me too drowsy
