User Comments about Depakote ER
19 Jan 2016 Have PTSD and suspected mood disorderpppossibly bipolar II--not sure. Currently tapering off this med as has wreaked havoc with my Hashimoto's thyroiditis--my TSH and levothyroxine doses have been stable for past 2 years and after just 5 months on this drug, my TSH went from 1.5 to 21.7 and caused me to gain 18 pounds in last three months. ALso have hot flashes; spacy, throbbing, pulsating feeling in head, tremors in hands. feel like lost all motivation to do anything prodcutive,

19 Nov 2012 I have apparently had (undiagnosed) cyclothymia for a VERY long time now, which was then exacerbated by the ham-handed, long term application of Cymbalta for pain due to nerve damage. In less than a few days this drug has done wonders to ease the anxiety and deep depression caused from the years long mania bender and then burnout it caused, and very long (year and a half) withdrawal I experienced while stopping, and am still experiencing from the years long doses of 60mg Cymbalta. It has quickly and effectively evened me out, I guess that's the expression, and gotten me past that wanting to climb out of my own skin, intensely anxious feeling I had so very often, and now, I feel the depression easing too. Within a week though, I now also have lower abdominal pain/discomfort, like a burning/inflamed, swollen sensation in the ureter or somewhere near there, like between the kidneys and the bladder. It's waking me at night suddenly and I am only taking a 250mg pill once a day, of the ER (extended release) form. Although not terribly worried about it, I have a call in to the doctor, as I write this. - BTW, for those of you taking this for migraine, consider this; I tried numerous (some really nasty) drugs to control my migraines over many years (decades), which I had always had but which at one point suddenly became very severe. After years and years of putting it all together slowly, like a murder mystery, it seems that taking "proton pump inhibitors" Nexium, Prilosec, etc, lowers magnesium in the blood, which in my case I already was low of, and so then guess what can cause or trigger a migraine? For those of you who may take those drugs and find yourself having migraines now, or worse than ever, try magnesium supplements!!! I started taking them and within days, no more migraines,, at all, EVER! I can't remember anymore the last time I took a Maxalt,, and everything else I ever took, I stopped long ago as well. This may not be the deal for everyone, but I'll bet it'll be the ticket for more people than just myself. Good luck... Lewis

03 Nov 2012 This medicine has helped with my migraines, but the side effects are terrible. I have trouble sleeping, nightmares, dizziness, fatigue, hunger even after I've eaten, and most troubling of all, acute stomach pain. I took it for a week, then stopped it because the side effects were so bad, but now I am trying to pick it back up again as my migraines are almost unbearable.
