Oxybutynin is the generic name of Ditropan. It functions by reducing muscle spasms of the urinary tract and urinary bladder.

Used in the treatment of overactive bladder and symptoms include frequent and/or urgent urination; urinary incontinence; and increased night-time urination.

Oxybutynin chloride is the active ingredient of Ditropan and the inactive ingredients include:
Calcium stearate;
FD&C Blue #1 Lake;
Lactose;
Microcrystalline cellulose.

Common Uses:

Used in the treatment of neurogenic bladder problems including:
Frequent urination;
Sudden urination;
Painful urination;
Urinary incontinence.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Abdominal pain;
Bladder infection;
Blurred vision;
Change in taste;
Dizziness;
Drowsiness;
Dry eyes;
Dry mouth;
Dry skin;
Constipation;
Diarrhea;
Headache;
Indigestion;
Insomnia;
Nasal dryness;
Nausea;
Nervousness;
Palpitations;
Water retention in the lower extremities;
Weakness.

Cautions / Warnings:

Blurred vision;
Dizziness;
Drowsiness;
Physician consultation recommended prior to administering this medication in pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor drugs, such as:
Donepezil;
Galantamine;
Rivastigmine;
Tacrine.

Anticholinergic medications, such as:
Atropine;
Belladonna;
Benztropine;
Clidinium;
Clozapine;
Darifenacin;
Dicyclomine;
Diphenhydramine;
Glycopyrrolate;
Haloperidol;
Homatropine;
Hyoscyamine;
Ipratropium;
Scopolamine;
Tiotropium;
Trospium.

Antifungal/antibiotic medications, such as:
Clarithromycin;
Erythromycin;
Isoniazid;
Itraconazole;
Ketoconazole;
Telithromycin.

I have had bladder trouble for years and this medicine was prescribed to me as an asprin for the bladder. It has been very helpful to me for years as long as I take it exactly when it is time otherwise my bladder starts to hurt. Have tried other medicines and this one works best for me.
