I find it very strange that I can take my complete 2,500 mg. of Fortamet at my evening meal and only have a little stomach cramping later in the evening. Just as soon as I get up in the morning I start feeling the nausea and when I eat breakfast it will activate on most mornings the diarrhea. This can happen several times for the first part of the day. I stopped Fortamet for a period of 4 days to make sure it wasn't something else going on, but I found out that it was just the Fortamet causing the diarrhea and the nausea, because the diarrhea and nausea stopped after the second day. The reason i'm on 2,500 mg. of Fortamet is that I have had diabetes for 35 years. I feel Fortamet is the safest drug for me and it keeps my blood surgar down. My fasting surgars keep within a range of 90-120. When I went off of it for the 4 days the fasting went up to 170. I have even tried to cut it back to 1,500 mg., but I still feel the nausea and the diarrhea in the mornings. I have even tried to take it as early as 3:00 pm - to 4:00 pm but I still have the same problems in the morning. By late afternoon all the symtoms are gone. I'm also on 20 mg, of diabeta a day, mornings 10 mg. and supper 10 mg. I'm really so tired of feeling nausea and having to contend with the diarrhea for so many years!!! I'm really well educated in all the oral diabetic drugs. After 35 years of diabetes one can't help but be well educated.
