While one of Gleevec's side affects is diarreha (mine was really severe) I found that by taking 1000mg of vitamin D every other day almost completely stopped it. I didn't find that out until after losing 35 lbs. but if it helps someone else, great. Puffy eyes for 7 years now have made my eyes so beat up looking. Haven't found anything that really helped that. They're totally destroyed now. Swelling throughout my body and face. Sometimes more than others. Joint pain in fingers, feet and muscle spasms throughout my body. Can become very, very painful. Wakes me up many, many nights. Nothing seems to work for that, but I'm still trying. B-12 helps significantly with energy. Stomach pain is not what it once was, but occasionally I will have that excruciating pain and I have to wait for it to pass. Just sharing what I have been experiencing. Even with all of that said, thankful gleevec takes control of my CML.

It seems to be working on my CML. My next biopsy will tell.

At my age I have met many people whose chemo has caused MUCH worse side effects than gleeevec has so far caused me. My tumor was extremely large...no possibility of surgery. Newby to the drug, but in 30 days the tumor has decreased in size and pain is almost completely gone. Major problem seems to be the oncology dept. that I am associated with. Dr. is foreign (not meant to be derrogatory). He seems delighted w/success of drug. Absolutely no counseling Need to find information on my own. Sights like this are life savers.
