This colorless, volatile, highly corrosive liquid has been used to burn off warts and in a dilute form it was given for fevers, bronchitis, and other chest infections, for syphilis, and to dissolve kidney and bladder stones. Commercially, it is mainly used in the manufacture of explosives and fertilizers. The fumes are highly irritating and cause death if inhaled. This remedy is used to treat splinter like pain which may appear and disappear suddenly, for example, in sore throats, mouth ulcers and thrush. It is also good for piles with sharp, stitch like pains in the rectum. Discharges are burning and offensive. Urine is strong smelling.
