I took Plaquenil for about 2 weeks the first time before I came down with shingles and bronchitis, coughing up thick, green phlegm. I was put on Valtrex and was told to stop talking Plaquenil about 2 weeks later. I had breast swelling and pain.The doctor sent me in for a mammogram and ultra-sound. Tests showed I had complex breast cysts. I was told to use ice packs and vitamin E for the cysts and was given a Pro Air inhaler to take 4 times a day and told to take Mucinex every 12 hours until the phlegm subsided and 2 weeks of Zythromax. The phlegm subsided after about 3 weeks. The cysts have persisted. I tried taking Plaquenil again and within a few days I was congested, coughing up thick green phlegm again then had to stop. The phlegm is not as bad as it was the last time, yet I wasn't on the Plaquenil as long this time and called the doctor sooner. After being off the Plaquenil for a little more than 24 hours, the phlegm seems to have already started to subside, and is no longer as thick but I continue to cough up white phlegm, yet it is not as thick.

I believe that plaquenil does have more pros then cons in the long run.

really just wanted to know if prolonged usage can cause Cushing's disease
