Warnings
The generic names of this medication are acetaminophen, dextromethorphan,guaifenesin or pseudoephedrine. Brand names are Robitussin Cold/Cough/Flu and Sudafed Cold.
The active ingredients of this medication are dextromethorphan HB USP and guaifenesin.
Robitussin is being manufactured by Wyeth Consumer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.
Mainly used to relieve pain, congestion, cough, throat and airway irritation due to colds, flu, or hay fever.
Common Uses:
This medication is used to relieve pain, congestion, cough, throat and airway irritation due to colds, flu, or hay fever.
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Dizziness
Excitability
Headache
Nausea
Nervousness or anxiety
Trouble sleeping
Weakness
Cautions / Warnings:
Not advisable in patients that are allergic to any ingredient in Robitussin Cold/Cough/Flu.
Not advisable in patients who suffer from severe high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, or other severe heart problems (heart blood vessel disease).
Not advisable in patients who have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase.
Not advisable during pregnancy, pre-pregnancy and in nursing mothers.

Bromocriptine
Guanadrel
Guanethidine
Mecamylamine
COMT inhibitors (tolcapone)

Robitussin Comments

I am just reovering from a chest infection and cough for which I was taking over-the-counter Robitussin about 4 times a day. This evening, my heart started beating twice and then skipping a beat in a regular pattern of three. I felt bad. Walking up and down stairs kicked it back into normal rhythm. I was motivated to Google "arrythmias" where I rapidly discovered that arrythmia is a known side effect of Robitussin. It was scary. I will not be using it again.

although Rubitussin has helped a lot with cough and weezing I have noticed a dramatic drop in my libido and nocturnal erections
