Saw Palmetto is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections and for problems of the genitourinary organs. It is also used for sexual or general fatigue. Native Americans valued this herb as a food source and for its sedative and tonic medicinal properties. In the 19th century, an American homeopath claimed that if eaten regularly the berries could increase the weight and size of the breasts. Other Uses: for men - to treat enlargement of the prostate gland, difficulty urinating, a cold feeling in the genitals with a lack of libido, weakness, and nervous irritability, as well as for given for testicular inflammation; for women - helpful for inflammation of breast tissue, which may occur from breast-feeding, and for pain and tenderness of swollen breasts before menstruation.
