22 Jun 2012 I am on Simvastatin for the last 3 years. Although my cholesterol has been kept within normal limits during this time, I do experience sideeffects more and more in particular: dizziness, blurred vision, lightheadiness, headaches, tension and irritability. I am concerned about this, as it affects my daily wellbeing, but at the same time I have to keep my cholesterol under control. I eat very healthy, avoid fats, processed food, cheese, and red meat as much as possible. I wonder if there is a better type of statin that my body can tolerated better. Your help is appreciated. Thank you

23 May 2012 I recently had taken simvastatin for 2 1/2 months and finally figured out why I felt so awful, mostly at first blaming symptoms onto allergies, virus and exercise induced muscle aches. I had many symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, sudden abdominal pain, embarrassing gas, indigestion, sweating esp at nite, frequent nite urination , nausea, coughing, weakness, tired, some effects on memory and focusing on the task at hand, cough, joint pain and muscle aches. I went to a doctor thinking I had a sinus infection, only prescribed antibiotic drops for my ears for possible outer ear infection and said I had a virus. It has been 2 weeks since I saw that doctor and being a nurse for many years I'm sure I have been having symptoms of walking pnuemonia due to side effects of this med. I quit taking the simvastatin 1 1/2 weeks ago due to feeling so generally awful/ trying to drive home 34 miles one nite and wondering if I would make it home ok, wanting to just take something so I could lay down and go to sleep. I'm hoping that I will start feeling better soon and I continue to take natural and OTC meds the for congestion, etc. It seems to be helping some, although I often feel generally poor, very tired and not normally like I should. I will never take any statin or prescription med for my cholesterol as this has been a terrible experience. I have familial/genetic high cholesterol and will continue to use diet, exercise, supplements and will again persue searching for alternatives to help me. I want to feel my normal self again.

23 May 2012 I have sympathy for you and share some of the experiences. I had acute pain in my calf muscle and thought it was a deep vein thrombosis. It was impossible for me to walk and although on testing DVT was excluded as a cause, yet no explanation could be given regarding the severity of symptoms. Since then the pains have continued in my legs as well as muscle weakness and having no energy. I stopped the simvastatin, my doctor was not best pleased, but I am more concerned about the quality of my life. It is hard to prove that the symptoms were drug related, but I had no symptoms prior to commencing statins. I too am a registered nurse and as such I have no confidence in the drug.
