Warnings
The generic name of this medication is montelukast and brand name is Singulair.
The active ingredient in Singulair is montelukast sodium.
Singulair is manufactured by Merck & Co.
Mainly used in the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma.
Common Uses:
This medication is used in the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma.
Off Label Uses:
The off label uses of this medication include its usage in certain patients to relieve runny nose caused by allergy and to prevent asthma attacks caused by exercise.
Side Effects:
Cough
Dizziness
Headache
Indigestion
Nausea
Stomach upset or pain
Stuffy nose
Tiredness
Trouble sleeping
Weakness
Cautions / Warnings:
Not advisable in patients that are allergic to any ingredient in Singulair.
Not advisable during pregnancy, pre-pregnancy or in nursing mothers.
Not advisable in patients with liver problems.
Not advisable in patients with a history of mental or mood problems, suicidal thoughts or actions.
Drug Interactions:
Certain anticonvulsants (phenobarbital)
Rifampin.

Greatly surprised. My nasal passages and throat were raw as hamburger..I took a 10 mg Singulair in desperation. Not only did the allergic soreness go away (and most of the congestion) but I noticed a marked shrinking of my prostate. I also take a 2mg hytrin daily. Singulair in the evening before bed and hytrin when I wake in the morning. Prostatic swelling is practically gone, but if I miss either medication it returns along with urinary problems within hours. I would rate Singulair 10 out of 10. Much to my surprise!

I have year round allergies. Continuous nasal drip, causing coughing, red watery eyes. My doctor prescribed Montelukast 10 mg. The only side a effect was flu like symptoms? She told me to take for 10 days. After reading the scary side effects of this medication, I think I'd rather keep my allergies.

I take this pill along with other allergy medication including allegra, nasonex, and several eye drops. Allergies were a very big issue when spring rolls around. It gets rid of the ichy eye sores and I have stopped sneezing all the time. I do not feel or observe any side effects by taking this medication.
