St. John's wort is possibly unsafe during pregnancy and during breast-feeding; St. John's wort may interfere with fertility, so should not be taken while trying to conceive; Might worsen symptoms of ADHD; May bring on mania or psychosis; May contribute to dimentia; May cause heart complications if taken during the time of a surgery.

About St. John's Wort

St John's wort is best known as an herbal treatment for depression. It's constituent chemical, hyperforin may be useful for treatment of alcoholism. Hyperforin has also been found to have antibacterial properties and has been shown to inhibit the reuptake of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, leading to speculation that it might alleviate the symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
