Wood Ear has been known and used by the Chinese at least for 2,500. It was mentioned in Ben Cao Kang Mu, a Herbal Manual of China written around that time. I use Wood Ear after reading its use for intestinal problems on China websites and it has vastly improved my IBD and related problem like rectal bleeding. I use this herb, a common vegetable used in Chinese cooking, with another herb Day Lily and this formula is a cure for IBD for me. Those suffering from IBD - of which IBS is included, in my opinion - should try this food recipe and save themselves from this excruciating and delibitating ailment that presents itself in various forms for which there seems no cure in sight when actually there is. This I found to be true in my case after 10 years of persistent search and testing of various natural herbs, only to find that these 2 kitchen herbs proved to be far better than medicinal ones.
