Xanax is manufactured by Pharmacia & Upjohn Company.
The active ingredient of this medication is alprazolam.
Mainly used in treating anxiety and panic disorder.
Common Uses:
This medication is used in teating anxiety and panic disorder.
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Changes in appetite
Changes in sexual desire
Constipation
Dizziness
Drowsiness
Dry mouth
Increased saliva production
Lightheadedness
Fatigue
Trouble concentrating
Unsteadiness
Weight changes
Cautions / Warnings:
Not advisable in patients allergic to any ingredient in Xanax or other benzodiazepines (diazepam).
Not advisable in patients with acute narrow-angle glaucoma, severe liver disease.
Not advisable in patients on azole antifungal (itraconazole, ketoconazole)
Not advisable during pregnancy, pre-pregnancy and in nursing mothers.
Drug Interactions:
Rifampin or St. John's wort
Azole antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole)
Clozapine
Hydantoins (phenytoin)
Valproic acid
HIV protease inhibitors (ritonavir)
