The generic name of this medication is Paclitaxel and Brand Name is Abraxane.
Abraxane is a medication that is used in the treatment of breast cancer.
The active ingredient of Abraxane incluldes nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel.
Abraxane is manufactured by Abraxis BioScience, Inc.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating breast cancer in certain patients.

Off Label Uses:

The Off lable Uses of this medication are:
it is used in the treatment of Bladder carcinoma;
Head and neck carcinoma;
Kaposi's sarcoma;
Lung carcinoma;
Ovarian carcinoma.

Side Effects:
Anemia;
Bleeding;
Changes in heart rhythm;
Coughing;
Diarrhea;
Dyspnea or difficulty breathing;
Fluid retention;
Hair loss;
Infections;
Low blood pressure;
Low platelet count;
Mouth sores;
Nausea;
Neutropenia or nerve pain including unusual sensations like burning or tingling;
Vomiting;
Weakness.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not advisable in people who are allergic to any ingredient in Abraxane;
Not advisable in people who have extremely low white blood cell counts (eg, extremely low neutrophil counts);
Not advisable in people who have shingles or chickenpox;
Not advisable in people who are pregnant, plan to become pregnant.

Drug Interactions:
Antibiotics like:
Clarithromycin;
Erythromycin;
Isoniazid;
Itraconazole;
Ketoconazole;
Miconazole;
Telithromycin;

Anticonvulsants like:
Carbamazepine;
Fosphenytoin;
Oxcarbazepine;
Phenobarbital;
Pentobarbital;
Phenytoin;
Primidone.

16 Jun 2012	Although Abraxane has seemed to slightly reduce the tumours in my liver, it is the most debilitating of all the treatments I have had thus far.(7 over 11years) It changed my positive outlook apart from causing me almost constant pain and fatigue. I usually respond well and feel better after 6 cycles, but I seem to be worse (generally) than ever. My Tumour Markers are sky high despite the improvement shown in the radiological tests. My doctors want me to continue but for the first time ver I think I will have to refuse any more as I don't feel my liver can take any more (Liver enzymes are also very high) nor can I ! —Posted by Jacqui Respond Display Name: Email: (Required) Notify me of new comments Email me monthly survey results Sending... 22 Sep 2010	This drug is efficient but it causes fatigue. In addition, I have to make lab exams regularly and it is expensive.
