The generic name of this medication is cefazolin and brand name are Ancef and Kefzol.

The active ingredient of this medication is cefazolin sodium. Route of administration is either intravenously or intramuscularly.

This medication is used in the treatment of several different forms of bacterial infections, including some extremely severe or life-threatening forms.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of several different forms of bacterial infections, including some extremely severe or life-threatening forms.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
Skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;
Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
Easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
Seizure (black-out or convulsions).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients; or with allergic reactions to any type of penicillin, or other cephalosporin antibiotics;
Kidney disease;
Liver disease;
Stomach or intestinal disorders like colitis.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Aminoglycoside antibiotics like tobramycin and gentamicin;
Blood thinning agents like warfarin;
Chloramphenicol;
Probenecid.
