The generic name of this medication is Amoxapine and Brand Names are Asendin, Asendis, Defanyl, Demolox, Moxadil.

The active ingredient of this medication is tricyclic antidepressant.

Amoxapine is used to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, or agitation.

Common Uses:

Amoxapine is used to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, or agitation.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
tachycardia, pounding or uneven heart rate;
Chest pain or heavy feeling, discomfort spreading to the upper extremities or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
Sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
Feeling light-headed, fainting;
Restless muscle movements in the eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck;
Tremors or uncontrollable shaking.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Who are allergic to any drugs;
Who have heart disease;
Who have a history of cardiovascular condition, stroke, or seizures;
Who suffer from renal disorders;
Who suffer from diabetes (amoxapine may raise or lower blood sugar);
Who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant.

Drug Interactions:
Cimetidine (Tagamet); or
Heart rhythm medications such as flecainide (Tambocor), propafenone (Rhythmol), or quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinidex, Quinaglute).

About Amoxapine

Amoxapine (brand-names Asendin, Asendis, Defanyl, Demolox, Moxadil) is a tricyclic antidepressant of the dibenzoxazepine class. It is used in the treatment of depression, panic disorders and bipolar disorder.

Amoxapine is a strong reuptake inhibitor of norepinephrine and weak reuptake inhibitor of serotonin. One of its major metabolites, 7-hydroxyamoxapine, has a dopamine receptor blocking effect.
