The generic name of this medication is diphenhydramine and brand names are Benadryl, Genahist, Sominex and Unisom.

The active ingredients of this medication are Diphenydramine hydrochloride and Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.

This medication used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever and the common cold.

Common Uses:

This medication used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever and the common cold.

Off Label Uses:

Used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness caused by motion sickness.

Side Effects:
Severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling or nervousness.
Confusion, hallucinations.
Slow, shallow breathing.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
In patients allergic to it.
If patient has breathing problems (e.g. asthma, emphysema) or glaucoma, heart problems, high blood pressure.
If there is liver disease, mental/mood changes, seizures, stomach problems (e.g. ulcers, obstruction), an overactive thyroid gland, difficulty urinating (e.g. due to an enlarged prostate gland).
During pregnancy or pre-pregnancy.

Drug Interactions:
Antispasmodics (e.g. atropine, belladonna alkaloids), drugs for Parkinson's disease (e.g. anticholinergics such as benztropine, trihexyphenidyl).
MAO inhibitors (e.g. furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine), scopolamine, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline).
Certain antihistamines (e.g. dimenhydrinate), anti-seizure drugs (e.g. carbamazepine), medicine for sleep or anxiety (e.g. alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxant.
