DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG FOR ANY REASON. IT IS A BLACK BOX DRUG. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET OFF THIS DRUG, THERE ARE REHAB CENTERS DEDICATED TO WITHDRAWAL FROM THIS DRUG. I was taking ONLY 1/2 of a 15 MG pill every night for a year. I gained weight on it, psychiatric nurse practitioner (whom I no longer TRUST) said "stop taking it." HUGE error. Two weeks of physical withdrawal symptoms which included insomnia, vivid and disturbing dreams, chills (constant all day), diarrhea. After the initial withdrawal, I experienced SERIOUS psychological and emotional side effects including BLACK DEPRESSION, thoughts of suicide, feelings of hopelessness. I knew it was the drug withdrawal so I SURVIVED IT, how many do NOT? One month later, I still have bowel dysfunction symptoms and my therapist informed me today that one of her patients had to wear a DIAPER to bed for MONTHS because of bowel incontinence. I can attest to that. Feeling of urgent need to eliminate got me up very early ever morning and still persists on some days. THIS STUFF IS POISON, AVOID IT.

Remeron does an okay job at treating my depression but sometimes I feel like I need more help :(.

Remeron was probably the worst drug I have ever taken. Stimulated my appetite to the point where I was constanly eating and gained almost 100lbs while on it. As someone with eating disorders on top of anxiety about weight, this drug did not work well for me. The side effects outweighed the therapuetic benefits and I stopped taking this drug about 14 months after I started it.

About Mirtazapine
Mirtazapine is an antidepressant introduced by Organon International in 1996 used for the treatment of mild to severe depression. Mirtazapine has a tetracyclic chemical structure and is classified as a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant (NaSSA). It is the only tetracyclic antidepressant that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat depression. Because of its unique pharmacologic profile, mirtazapine is virtually devoid of anticholinergic effects, serotonin-related side effects, and adrenergic side effects (orthostatic hypotension and sexual dysfunction). Antihistaminic side effects of drowsiness and weight gain are prominent. It is most useful as an add on medication to enhance the effectiveness of agents such as duloxetine and venlafaxine in severe and treatment resistant depression. Mirtazapine is relatively safe if an overdose is taken.
