The generic name of this medication is calcium carbonate antacid and the various brand names are Dicarbosil; Rolaids; Titralac; and Tums.

The active ingredient of this medication is calcium carbonate and the inactive ingredients are acesulfame potassium and anhydrous citric acid.

It is primarily used in the treatment of symptoms caused due to increased stomach acid such as heartburn; upset stomach; and indigestion.

Common Uses:

This is a calcium carbonate antacid that is used to treat symptoms caused by increased stomach acid such as heartburn; upset stomach; and indigestion.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Constipation;
Gas;
Burping.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Increased levesl of calcium or hypercalcemia; stomach/intestinal blockage;
Phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other condition which needs one to curtail or carefully monitor the consumption of aspartame or phenylalanine;
Renal calculi or kidney stones.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women.

Drug Interactions:
Bisphosphonates (e.g., alendronate);
Certain phosphate binders (e.g., calcium acetate);
Digoxin;
Estramustine; iron; levothyroxine; strontium; and quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin; levofloxacin).
Phosphate supplements (e.g., potassium phosphate);
Sodium polystyrene sulfonate;
Tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline and minocycline).
