The generic name of this medication is venlafaxine and the brand name is Effexor.

Effexor is manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

The active ingredients of this medication is venlafaxine hydrochloride. Inactive ingredients include; cellulose; iron oxides; lactose;, magnesium stearate; and sodium starch glycolate.

It is primarily used in the treatment of depression.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating depression.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Anxiety;
Blurred vision;
Changes in taste;
Constipation;
Decreased sexual desire or ability;
Dizziness;
Drowsiness;
Dry mouth;
Flushing;
Headache;
Increased sweating;
Loss of appetite;
Nausea;
Nervousness;
Stomach upset;
Trouble sleeping;
Vomiting;
Weakness;
Weight loss;
Yawning.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people that are:
Allergic to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) like phenelzine.

Not advisable in pregnant women or those that are planning to become pregnant.

Drug Interactions:
Anticoagulants like warfarin;
Aripiprazole;
Azole antifungal agents like ketoconazole or cimetidine;
Cyproheptadine;
Diuretics like furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide;
Haloperidol;
Linezolid;
MAOIs like phenelzine; methylene blue; metoclopramide; nefazodone; rasagiline;
Phenothiazines like chlorpromazine and thioridazine;
Risperidone;
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like fluoxetine.

12 Sep 2013	I hate this drug! I can't get excited about anything I feel like a zombie.... even my doctor who prescribed it to me said "if you were any more excited about life id be beside my self"... I've tried getting off of it but the withdrawal is physically painful... my head pounds, I feel like throwing up, my whole body feels fuzzy and shakes... I can barely function without it! I feel like I'm on crack! Even when I tried weening myself off of it I couldn't take it! 17 Oct 2011	I was prescribed Effexor in 2000. I wish this drug had NEVER been invented!! I can't get off it! I had a surgery and was told no meds only a sip of water after midnight. I went into convulsions the Dr had to sew me up without finishing. I had to go back into surgery because of this drug that it seems no one can get off. Does anyone know of a remedy that will get rid of the "With Draws?"
