Montel Williams
Montel Williams (July 3, 1956—) Montel Williams is known by millions as the host of The Montel Williams Show. Williams was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, although he'd been having episodes on and off for many years and readily admits to having been in denial about it. Once the reality hit, and in his case the pain too—different people suffer different symptoms—Williams became so depressed that he actually attempted suicide.
But he had an epiphany, he told Oprah, after being recognized by the person who barely avoided hitting him when he threw himself into a busy road. He decided to look at MS as a gift that God had given him.
Williams concentrated on making good use of the unique resources that celebrity has allowed him. He's talked to the world's f
oremost authorities on MS; he's been evaluated and treated at the famous Karolinska Institute in Sweden; he's read widely about MS and its causes and treatments, and, of course, continued to do what he does best, talking to people and finding support and guidance in the MS community.
He now takes good care of himself, eating a healthy diet packed with fruit and vegetables to cool inflammation. He meditates each day. He works out regularly, both to build strength and to ease the pain in his legs. He's found that a few hours of snowboarding can improve his balance and walking for days. And each day he takes 27 pills and several injections.
Going public wasn't easy and he was advised against it. But he established the Montel Williams MS Foundation to raise money for research and to give people a better understanding of the disease; every nickel raised goes towards finding a cure. "I have one of the biggest mouths on this planet, and I decided to keep using it until everyone everywhere knows about MS, what can be done to fight it, and a cure is found," he wrote.
"I believe to the depth of my soul that all of these goals can be achieved. It will take courage and commitment, but these are qualities we can help each other find in ourselves. I know we can build a future of hope and health, and together we're going to win."

Health tip of the day:
Quit smoking! Smoking is the number one cause of premature death in every country on the globe; cigarettes contain over 3,000 chemicals, including Formaldehyde (used to preserve dead bodies), Hydrogen cyanide (rat poison), Acetone (used in nail polish remover), and Hydrazine (used in rocket fuel).
